ECDC publishes its “EU Guidelines for the prudent use of antimicrobials in human health”

In the context of the ongoing work against the rising threats from antimicrobial resistance and given the role of antimicrobial misuse and overuse in the emergence and spread of resistance, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) developed “EU Guidelines on the prudent use of antimicrobials in human health”, based on a technical report prepared by ECDC with input from EU Member States experts and stakeholders, including EFN.

These guidelines aim to reduce inappropriate use and promote prudent use of antimicrobials, being complementary to infection prevention and control guidelines which may exist at national level, and target all actors who are responsible for, or play a role in, antimicrobial use and whose contribution is necessary to ensure that antimicrobials are used appropriately.
